Frequently Asked Dental Questions – Phoenix, AZ

For All of Your Dental-Related Questions, Rely on Us!

If you have questions about your at-home oral hygiene routine, any treatments that we offer, or you’re just wondering what in the world holistic dentistry is, our team has the answers you need. Below, we’ve compiled some of the most frequently asked questions that we receive from our patients. If you don’t see the information you need, feel free to reach out to us directly!

What is holistic dentistry?

Holistic dentistry is where we don’t just consider your mouth, but how your oral health affects the rest of your body as well. Issues like mercury from “silver” fillings, toxic metals, infected root canal and gum disease can directly impact your overall health. We have the tools and experience necessary to address these issues and help you achieve optimal health.

Are my root canals a problem?

There are many issues with old root canals.  While there is no “fool-proof” diagnostic method to determine if a root canal is problematic, we do have state-of-the-art 3D imaging equipment that can detect many infections not seen on conventional x-rays.  If a toxic root canal does require removal, we make sure to follow the proper protocols to properly clean up the extraction site.

Will I feel better after removing my mercury fillings?

Probably not right away.  When we remove old mercury containing fillings, we are removing a source of toxicity.  The good news is, once the amalgams are removed, any detoxification program will be much more effective.  In fact, many chelation programs call for the removal of these restorations before the start of treatment.

Is it safe to take out amalgams?

Improper removal of mercury releasing amalgams can be highly problematic.  That is why all of our doctors use the SMART® (Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique) protocol.  Dr. Mahn has also studied with the late Dr. Hal Huggins and incorporates some of his techniques as well.

Do I have to take X-rays?

In order for us to give you a proper diagnosis (and to follow the “Standard of Care”), we do need a set of current x-rays.  All of the equipment used in our office is designed to give you the lowest possible level of exposure.

Do you use Fluoride in your office?

We avoid any use of fluoride. The only fluoride containing products are our take-home whitening products.

Is it possible to replace teeth without using metal?

Yes!  We have a number of bio-compatible options available to replace missing teeth.  Even dental implants are now made of a non-metallic material.  If you have missing teeth that need to be replaced, we will thoroughly cover all treatment options.

Do you take insurance?

While we don’t accept assignment of benefit, our team will file your claim with your insurance company.  With our digital documentation we can help you maximize your dental benefits and receive rapid reimbursement
